Alaska 2018 travel blog

We drove 150 miles today and ended back at the same spot as yesterday. Our morning drive, took us to Fairbanks and Pioneer Park, where we had planned to check on an ATV adventure. Most of the park vendors did not open until later in the afternoon, so there was not much to do. The ATV adventure we were interested in turned out to be outrageously priced for only a 2 hour trip. Curiosity set in so we decided to drive out the Elliott Highway to see if we could find an interesting place to camp. After about 15 miles of frost heaves, we gave up and decided a better plan was to explore the Stease Highway. After about 5 miles of that road, we decided it was time for a hamburger fix at McD in Fairbanks. Then it was back to the same spot we stopped last night. Our neighbors from Michigan were out, so we had another nice conversation with them. Fortunately the clouds have cleared and we got to sit and relax in the sun. Today’s accomplishment – drove 150 miles and back at the same place. We are still enjoying the same view of the N Chena River and waiting for the beaver to appear later. Free camping with a view is sooo nice.
