Alaska 2018 travel blog

We left our roadside campground planning to have coffee and a morning snack at Delta Junction – wrong – no cafes open in Delta Junction, only a drive thru coffee place. Alternate plan, a scenic pull out along the highway for a hot breakfast of bacon, eggs, and fried biscuits, with a nice view. Continuing north, we traversed familiar territory with a stop at North Pole, AK, and then on to Chena Hot Springs for a nice soak in the pool. Really nice. Déjà vu all over again – when we were here 8 years ago we enjoyed the hot pool during a rain shower – just as we did today. At times, the rain was steady, but - Oh Well! – we are in a nice relaxing geothermal pool, so a little rain just does not make much difference.

Our campsite for tonight is a very nice gravel area that is set up as access to the Chena River. We had seen this 8 years ago, and decided this was our spot for today. Only one other rig was parked here and we had nice conversation with a couple from Grand Rapids, MI. They have just retired and are celebrating with the summer in Alaska and one year on the road. It was nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the view of the river and a little later we had a beaver pop out of the woods across the river.
