Monday 14 May: It was very nice not to have to get up early so we didn’t. Breakfast at the Palace Hotel was a cut above what we had in Sicily so we lingered a bit and ventured out around 10am. We walked more through the old section of town, looking in on the cathedral, and around the waterfront. We will be back with Angelo for a visit later in the week. As he was picking us up at 1.00pm, we had a coffee and cake back at the hotel, collected our luggage and waited for Angelo. He is a vey nice man with excellent English and we got to know one another on the drive to Gioia del Colle - about half an hour. Angelo settled us in to the B & B Cavour (which he calls a hotel and it is quite large). We have a very spacious room with a private balcony just right for a vino in the afternoon. After unpacking, we set off for a walk around the old centre and to check out some of the restaurants Angelo recommended in his notes. However, most were closed on Monday and those that were open did not start dinner until 7-7.30pm, too late for us. So we had a drink at the wine bar and bought a bottle, then some focaccia and ham from the bakery and had a little meal on our balcony.
