Australia and the Pacific Ocean Spring 2018 travel blog

Cairns is a coastal town that has many backpackers and Asian tourists. From what I understand many Australians don't stay there, but go to nicer places up the coast. But we did not have a rental car and public transit was pretty much non-existent. Plus the hotels are only about 15 minutes away from the airport. It made for a decent base camp for our tours.

The hotel (Il Palazzo) was decent and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was right in the heart of things and one block from the water. There were two problems with the hotel room. The refrigerator was small, so we had to go to the grocery store every few days. There was construction going on next door for a new building. Our room was right next to the construction site and the workers could see into our room/balcony. The noise during the day made it hard to use the balcony even if we wanted to.

We grabbed a few things at the grocery store and then went to bed.
