|Saturday 7 May: The flights over were uneventful and not too taxing so, on arrival at Rome airport, it was a short taxi ride to the Hotel Tiber in Fiumicino situated right at the mouth of the River Tiber. As we were only staying one night, there was no unpacking to do so we set of to explore and stretch our legs after sitting for so long. Fiumicino is mainly a fishing area with many boats along the river banks and people with rods in wherever they could. There were quite a few restaurants but we did not want to stay up that long so had our first prosecco at a bar on the river, found a little market for a couple of beers and chocolate and, after searching around for something to take back to the hotel, ended up with fish cooked with potatoes. It looked nice but we found it was cold so not the most inspiring meal we have had. But we cleaned up and enjoyed it on our little balcony before falling into bed around 7pm.
