Thursday night and Friday: 3 and 4 May

Well, here we go. London look out because we’re on our way. Our Qatar flight on a A380 left Perth on time and arrived a little early in Doha the next morning. The champers was good to start with and we both managed to get a reasonable amount of sleep. When we got to Doha we only had about 50 minutes to get to our next flight, and if you know Doha Airport you’ll know 50 minutes cutting it fine to get from one terminal to another, so we were fortunate we were met by a Qatar rep and escorted all the way (including on the train from one terminal to the other).

The flight from Doha to London was excellent on the A350 900 and we each had our own suite on board (I know it sounds a bit pretentious but that’s what they call our individual fully enclosed seat/bed area).

We got in to London about noon on Friday 4 May and were at our hotel in Kensington by about 1 pm. We then explored the area close to our hotel, including a visit to the V & A, the Brompton Oratory, Harrods and a bit of exploring around South Kensington where we found a couple of interesting bars and some good dining options.

Saturday: 5 May

Up early for a hearty breakfast and a full day of exploring London. The weather was forecast to be great for the day and as our hotel is not far from Kensington Gardens that’s where we headed first where we visited the Serpentine Galleries before heading across to Hyde Park. From there it was on to Marble Arch then a bit of window shopping along Oxford St up as far as Oxford Circus. From there we made our way through Burlington Arcade and back to Buckingham Palace to say hi to Liz and Phil.

If it all sounds like a bit of a hike you can bet it was. Before we got back to our hotel we had also visited the Saatchi Gallery and sat down with a couple of cold beers. All in all about 13 kilometres walking before we even thought about heading out again for dinner.

Sunday: 6 May

Well it’s time to move on from London. Our driver is picking us up this morning at 10.30 and taking us on to our next port of call, Southampton where we’ll be boarding our first ship, Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas. From Southampton we sail to Bilbao, Vigo and Lisbon and then back to Southampton.
