Day 13 - El Camino

Maximum elevation = 937 m, minimum & finishing elevation = 765m. 5 to 15 degrees.

Another friend of M's, S3 joined us this morning for a few days. So team lad is at 6 members again.

We headed out into a clear morning - quite unusual. Straight up was a gradual climb to our maximum elevation for the day. And then, THE SUN CAME OUT!! (and not for just a second). What a lovely day it turned out to be. I was able to strip down from my usual 4 top layers to 2!! And, what a day to do it. We passed through beautiful villages with medieval architecture. We sat outside in Hontanas for morning tea and Castrojeriz for lunch and soaked up the Sunshine.

Just before lunch, we passed by the convent ruins at San Anton. Nothing much there other than the ruins but an outdoor bar was set up opposite. On such a beautiful day, we had to stop for a drink. Softdrinks for some of us, a beer for the true lads.

After lunch we walked a couple of kilometres towards the afternoons climb to Alto de Mostelares. We had all giggled at the guide books description of a strenuous 100m climb, given what we'd walked so far. But, at 12% it was a little more challenging than expected as was the 10% downhill on the other side. Then a long slow flat walk to Itero de la Vega and our stop for the night.

We entered the region of Castilla and León just before Redecilla del Camino. It is separated into three provinces. We started in Burgos. We entered Palencia today, just before Itero de la Vega. León will be in a few days.

Today's distance = 31.5 km

Total distance = 347km

VW count unchanged
