‘Marvellous Melbourne’ was coined in the 1880s when, following the gold rush, it became the wealthiest city (per capita) in the world . Today it’s on track to overtake Sydney in population size and it’s been voted ‘the world’s most liveable city’ for the seventh year running by The Economist.
