Africa 2018 travel blog

Well the African Evening was fun! African dancing and local food including warthog and worms as well as “normal “food.

Our hotel is set quite high up with great views including a small lake, watering hole. Shortly before we went out a herd of buffalo arrived followed by about 20 elephants. Quite wonderful to see them in the wild.

Wednesday morning we woke up to heavy rain for we’d had a heavy thunderstorm during the night. Set off to see the Falls which were quite spectacular. We were on the Zimbabwe side and opposite is Zambia. We all were given ponchos to wear as we were likely to get wet.

We are with a fun group and all having a good laugh. We have four ladies from Yorkshire who are always keen to get to the bar, two ladies from Glasgow and a couple from Leominster.

Back at the hotel every lunchtime they feed the vultures. Well that was extraordinary seeing so many of them swooping in and devouring the large lumps of meat left for them.

Late afternoon we went on a short cruise on the Zambezi river. It was only our party on the small and we were served alcohol and food - very good. On the river we saw hippopotamus in the water but you can’t go too close for they are very protective of their space. We got within 800 metres of the edge of the Falls which was close enough!

Today, Thursday we have left Victoria Falls and travelled into Botswana and the Chobe Safari Lodge. We are here for 3 nights and are doing 2 game drives and a river cruise which we’re looking forward to.

I would hope to add some photos but the internet is very slow here in Botswana so you’ll have to wait probably until we’re in South Africa next week
