Our Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel

We returned Thursday morning to Circular Quay and had a sandwich in the wharf area. Then we hiked up the hill with suitcases in tow... about 3 blocks... to our hotel for the next 3 days: the Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel. It is supposedly the oldest hotel in Sydney. There are two floors of rooms (7 total) over the pub and brewery. There is no elevator. Luckily a nice young woman helped us drag the suitcases to our fourth floor room. Good AC, corner room with 4 windows, nice large tub!

We rested for the afternoon and then prepared for our trip to the Sydney Opera House to see the opera Carmen. We walked over around 4:30, got our opera tickets, drink vouchers, and dinner tickets at the will-call window. Dinner was very nice, in a lovely room over looking the harbor. We were greeted with a Kir. 1st course was salmon, then chicken, then petit fours and coffee.

We settled into our rafter seats just in time. We knew the story and were assisted with English -and Chinese- subtitles above the stage. We could see surprising well from up there. We had wine at intermission and watched the last half. We had a pleasant 30 minute walk home! What a memorable evening!!!!
