Early start under the overcast skies as we headed back into town - spent some time in Dymocks bookstore before walking down to Federation Square and Flinders Street Railway Station. 70min train ride out to Belgrave. Here we caught the Puffing Billy historic train to Lakeside. It was packed. Lovely ride with a couple of stops along the way. Arrived at Lakeside (near Emerald). We had lunch here and then went and had a look at a huge model railway display - it was over 30 years old.
We then went down to the lakes for the boys to hire an Aquabike and did a few laps around the lake before it started to drizzle. We grabbed an ice-cream before taking shelter in the train as it started to rain.
Since we were up in the Dandenong Ranges the clouds came right down as we travelled back down to Belgrave. It made the trip really enjoyable..if not a bit spooky.
It is incredible to see how realistic the train journey is - hundreds of volunteers in unform make the experience unforgettable. It was a lovely day.
As we came back into Melbourne it started to rain more consistently. We were lucky however that we walked back to the van park in the dry. There is so much to do in Melbourne and we could have spent a few weeks here. None the less we had a great week here.
