October 18, 2017-Travel to Brisbane and O’Reilly’s Rainforest Resort
This was a travel day. Bus took us to the Cairns Airport where we flew out to Brisbane. The rain was pouring down. There we piled into 2 vans and drove for a couple of hours up a long and winding rainy road to O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat.
This is a compound on top of a mountain that began as a dairy farm but quickly evolved into a tourist retreat. It is a marvel up so high in the middle of a rainforest. It has numerous colorful birds, including Rosellas and others. The birds will climb all over you if you offer them food.
We had shed our RVs, so we ended up sharing a 3 bedroom condo with 2 other couples. The condo was built on stilts in the middle of the forest, with great views down the valley and our own personal rosellas who came looking for food. Adventure Caravans was covering our room and board and several of the tours that we took.
The trip took most of the day, so by the time we got to O’Reilly’s it was time for dinner then time for bed.
One thing that we missed on this trip was the campfire get togethers that we have shared on other Adventures. While all of us would share the travel and the sight seeing during the day, there was little bringing us together at night after the dinners. We al just retired to our respective rooms or Rvs. It was true with the time in the condos as well, although we did have more interaction with our condo mates Bill and Pat and Rob and Pam. We learned a little more about their lives back in the states and shared some of ours.
