October 6 – Car and RV Service, Visit to Local Creamery and Lagunitas Brewing Company

This clear and cool morning, I added air to the car tires and cleaned the A/C/heater air filter, added DEF and engine oil to the Sprinter and glued my KEEN sandals soles.

For lunch, we visited the Petaluma Creamery where all of the dairy milk was taken during the dairy milk boom some decades ago.

For fun, we joined a rowdy group of folks to imbibe the products of the local Lagunitas Brewing Company. As the 5 samples of beer were enjoyed, the crowd became more rowdy as the buzz set in. To insure that our designated driver was without a buzz, I volunteered to take her samples so they would not go to waste.

We tasted for quality purposes, a PILS (short for Pilsner), a wheat derived Little Sumpin’, an IPA (India Pale Ale – more later) and a seasonal release, a Brown Sugga’. Finally, an awful mash-produced liquid was offered called Eroica, a Lagunitas-idied verson of a traditional Flemish Farmhouse ale – yuk – I could hardly finish my sample glassful, must have been the Flemish Outhouse. : )

Even thought I still feel the buzz, I am going to share some beer history. : ) When beer was shipped to India from Britain decades ago, it arrived nasty and could not be imbibed. But, when flowers (hops) of the hop plant Humulus lupulus were added to the beer before it was shipped, it arrived drinkable. So, India Pale Ale was invented in England and not India. I knew that you wanted to know. : )

We are planning our 4-hour travel south to Big Sur tomorrow using routes to the east of San Francisco. Our tour guide, John, encouraged us to take the short route using Rt. 101 that goes through SF as a 4-lane city street – no thanks.
