|Arrived in St. Petersburg around 5:30 in the afternoon. Viking took us by bus to the ship. Weather was cool, but not too cold and overcast. Impressions driving from the airport were that the surroundings looked very industrial and not very pretty. .Traffic was also really bad. Turns out we were driving through an industrial area and there are much prettier areas of the city. As we drove we saw many apartment houses. Some were as high as 28-30 stories and they were in clusters of five or more. They say St. Petersburg has a population of 6,000,000 or so and from the way it looks a great many of them live in these apartment clusters. Arrived on the ship - small, but very nice and the staff are very solicitous and accommodating. Our stateroom is compact, but more than adequate and quite comfortable. Went to dinner. Dining room is open seating - some tables of 6 or 8, some only 2, so lots of choices. Dinner is ordered off the menu with 3 or 4 choices of appetizers, salads and soups, entrees, cheese plate and desserts. Unlimited beer or wine is offered with lunch and dinner so we availed ourselves of the opportunity. Finished dinner and went to bed.
