Departed Novgorod early in the morning and travelled to St Petersburg by bus – some of us feel a bit ripped off not to arrive by train after such an epic train journey. Had lunch and then the rain started. It rained all afternoon and we were wet & cold – my shoes were squelching! We did a 3 hour walking tour with a local guide who kept telling us how lucky we were as you can’t usually see the sights of St Petersburg without hoardes of tourists. Hard to get bearings on the city due to the rain – and the Church of the Saviour on spilt blood was covered in scaffolding!!
