After Jane and Liam picked us up at the train station, it took us 15 minutes to reach their house. Jane had prepared a lovely meal for us. By the time all the food was eaten and all the chatting done, it was after 2 AM, Newcastle time. Dot and I were exhausted but very pleased and excited to be with them. Our arrival meal was the perfect start to a wonderful week with them.

Day 1: Liam and Jane showed us around downtown Newcastle with a stroll across the Gateshead Millennium Bridge (real cool) and a visit to the Baltic Contemporary Art Museum. A lovely city. Of course there were stops at a couple of pubs along the way. At night we had a lovely dinner at their house with two of their friends, John and Judy.

Day 2: More chatting and a wonderful pub crawl/dinner out with two other couples - Roger and Evon and Mike and Judith.

Day 3: Liam took us to Durham. Visited the Durham Cathedral, which is also the Shrine of St. Cuthbert. We had a lovely time just strolling through the town. On our way back to Newcastle we stopped at the site of the Angel of the North.

Day 4 and 5: An adventure to the Northumbrian coast with visits to the beaches and the Alnwick and Bramburgh castles. Stayed at the beach apartment of friends of Jane and Liam, Phillip and Helen.

Day 6: Preparations for our departure toworrow, Sunday, 13 August. Lovely dinner out at a local Lebanese restaurant. Excellent.

Day 7: Travel day to London. Spent the afternoon touring the Tate Britain Museum. We depart from Gatwick tomorrow for Venice.

Jane and Liam, Thank you so much! We had a wonderful stay with the two of you.
