KayJen Summer 2017 travel blog

Today slept in until 8 am, so good to recharge. As a concern for rain we decided to see the castle in the morning. This is owned by the Duke and is still privately owned and lived in. The gardens were beautiful, with water features throughout. By far the best representation of a castle with the insides intack. Huge paintings by Van Dyke, and furniture by Tiffanys that you could actually touch. The guards were just local older community members and able to answer all the questions. The bedrooms all fully furnished and gold and oak adorned. Queen Victoria's bedroom set up just as it was. Truly amazing you could walk through. A living museum and everyone respected that. The long narrow steps to guard houses gave one a good work out. A hidden gem I recommend.

Stopped for lunch in the castle and had tea outside at a proper tea shop. Weather held for us, and rained only when we were in the castle.
