This morning we packed the truck for an overnight and headed to the Glacier View Inn at the Ice Fields where we would spend the night. Now that we are in Calgary, we felt it would be too much to drive to the Ice Fields, take the tour and come back in one day, so we decided to spend the night at the hotel there.

On the way, we stopped in Canmore for brunch. The sky around Canmore seemed a little less smoky so we were hopeful that we would be able to have some good views of the Canadian Rockies. After brunch, we drove to the town of Banff where the smoke was so thick that it was difficult to breath inside the truck. As we proceeded north, the smoke hung over the Rockies and it was difficult to see much.

We stopped at Lake Louise and took the shuttle from the overflow parking lot. It was clear enough there to see the lake but not the mountain at the far end. We stayed long enough to get some pictures of the lake and hotel, then waited in a long line for the shuttle to get back to the parking lot.

We drove the rest of the way to the hotel, stopping occasionally for some pictures when we came across spots where the smoke was lighter. When we got to the hotel, the smoke was so thick you could not see the glacier and we were happy we did not pay for a glacier view room. The hotel room was very nice with a queen bed on the main floor and two twins in a loft.

When we went to the hotel restaurant for dinner, they had a buffet or limited a la carte menu. It was a small buffet and when we inquired about price ($49 per person), we decided to have a bison burger (a mere $20). Then back to the room for a good nights sleep.
