Day 26 - Tue 13 Jun 17

Depart Perpignan for Phase 2, Paris Stay

Very leisurely start as the hotel is alongside the station. We boarded the TGV at 1025hrs for our 1053hrs departure, having bought 2 sandwiches for lunch. We have been allocated the two worst seats in the carriage; facing backwards with pillar obstructing view. We moved to two forward facing seats and thankfully we did not have to move for the entire trip. The TGV is a very comfortable way to travel and to view the lovely green scenery was a bonus. Our only complaint was the dining car which was not carrying wine; very not French.

We arrived in Paris on time at 1553 hrs and without difficulty took the Metro to La Tour Maubourg. We arrived 20 mins earlier than our agreed meeting time of 1645hrs and awaited in a nearby bar which charged double the price for a glass of wine than in the south of France. We spoke with an Irish couple next to us for a few minutes before we had to meet our Paris Stay agent.

We did some mucking around before we gained entry and were initially horrified by the stairwell which was under renovation. We had been advised before our arrival that some works were in progress however this was quite significant.

Pierre the agent was waiting in the apartment for us and was quite positive about everything. He gave us a good briefing that took about 40 mins.

Our first task was to unpack our bags and to start the washing of the previous three weeks of soiled clothing.

At 1930 hrs we walked to our nearest supermarket to purchase a quiche, salad and bottle of wine. This was the basis of our first meal at out tiny two seater table in our comfortable one bedroom apartment in Paris. An early night was warranted.
