The top of the castle

Another view from the top

Through the night we were woken by thunder and lightning, so we were not expecting a lot from our last day.

After we packed and had left our bags at reception, we took the shuttle up to Fia. We then caught the bus to Pygros which is the highest town of the island (not far from the Monastery and the mountain side we climbed).

The day was cloudy with threatening rain and we had only just found a place for brunch when the skies opened and it poured. Our food was delightful so we took our time and the rain had cleared by the time we finished.

We explored the old castle and of course there were more churches to see, then we caught the bus back to Fia.

As our flight to Athens was not until 9pm, we still had a bit of time to kill.

We looked around the shops for last minute gifts and souvenirs. Then we found a lovely cafe with a view and sheltered there from the odd scattered rain shower that kept passing through. We relaxed there with a wine and a shared dessert. Not a bad way at all to end my Greek Island experience.

We waited for the 6.30pm shuttle to take us back to the hotel and then out to the airport ... Murphy's law...it was late. Others were waiting for it as well and by 7pm we were all getting a little anxious. One of the others rang to see where they were and long story short, she got them to finally come and get us.

By the time we got back to the hotel, all we had time for was to grab our bags and head back on the shuttle, straight to the airport.

Santorini airport is very small, like Albany, with very few amenities and yet it caters for international flights. The queues were quite long but we eventually found ourselves in the departure area waiting to board.

The flight was very short, barely 30 minutes..we only got up to altitude and then we started coming back down.

Toni had arranged a pickup to take us to an apartment room not far from the airport. The room was lovely but what is it about Athens and hot water???

We both had cool showers. So hoping the water is hot tomorrow morning.

We are only here to sleep and our man will be back at 9.30am to take us back to the airport to head for London.

Sadly that will be the end of my holiday travelling with Toni but there is still a lot more to look forward to. ☺
