Ron 'n Jan's two week escape from de-cluttering travel blog

path to Moss Garden lookout

Fri 12th May

In the morning the family headed off to school and work and we went back up the hill to their house to hitch up the van. On the way up we stopped at the parking lot for Moss Lookout but after walking for about 300m we abandoned it because the presence of morning fog would preclude seeing anything from the lookout anyway. But the short walk was still worth it to see the enormous amount of moss and lichen covering everything by and on the path. All different shades of green. Wow!!

Time to move on from this lovely area and head towards the Beaudesert area. Enjoyed travelling a bit of new (to us) road as we travelled back roads to avoid going back to Warwick. We travelled through Yangan and Tannymorel before rejoining the Aratula Warwick road and turning off at the Fassifern Picnic area. On through Kalbar on more back roads - much better than highway driving. Took the time along the way to have a look at Wyaralong Dam which was full and running over - well trickling would be a better word. The spillway was completely wet but we could not see any significant amount flowing, just a disturbance at the bottom of the spillway to show what was overflowing. Great to see it 100% full - no doubt after that huge rain event which we got just before Easter.

Destination for the 5 nights was “18 Mile Homestead” 31kms south of Beaudesert on the Kerry - Darlington Road. It is up the next valley east of the Christmas Creek road. Very pretty drive with lots to see. Enjoyable driving through the Scenic Rim area with mountains always somewhere nearby.
