11/5/2017. Ardlethan to Deniliquin

Lovely quiet night and I didn't think it was so cold - Ian disagreed!

We left about 9.30 and passed through the small town of Barellan, where there was a huge tennis racquet to honour Yvonne Goolagong. An early lunch at Darlington Point, then continued on to Jerilderie which is part of the Ned Kelly trail, and also houses the biggest windmill in Australia which, in 1910, was made for the property called 'Goolgumbula'. It was damaged in a storm, and donated to the Jerilderie Heritage Society. It was repaired by the company who made it, and it's still working today. Also home to a good bakery, and Ian succumbed yet again! To a sausage roll, of course! Our final destination was Deniliquin, where we're staying at the Big 4 Caravan Park, which is one of the best we've ever stayed at, with huge sites, 2 pools, a mini-golf course, children's play ground and jumping pillow and on the Edward River. And bargain - for members in May and June, stay 4 - pay for 2 - $15 a night! We walked around the park and were very impressed. Chatting to some of the locals, we were told that it was 2 deg. last night.

Diverse scenery again today, with wheat, grapes, wineries, irrigation channels, citrus, rice paddies, cotton, cattle, uncleared bush, horses - no time to be bored. We kept to the minor roads, which were all good, and very little traffic. We passed the Conargo Pub which seems to be famous but not sure why - lots of people have the sticker on their car saying 'I've been to the Conargo Pub' - well, no more. It burnt down about 3 years ago, but there are plans to rebuild it.

Another great day - we haven't had a bad one yet...
