Around Australia adventure travel blog

After taking the dogs for a quick walk, we were back on the road by our usual 10am ish. First stop was 5 minutes down the road at the local butcher where I stocked up on some meat (we try to make a point of spending some money in any town which provides a free camp in close proximity to the town). We were driving through Griffith about ½ an hour later. We were quite amazed at how large a fruit growing area there is around Griffith. There are rows and rows of grapes, citrus and stone fruit trees. The Italian heritage of the area is still apparent in the names of shops, etc, The main street was very busy, so we decided not to stop (no obvious place to park the van either), so kept driving towards our destination of the day – Lake Cargelligo.

There are a couple of sites where you can camp beside the lake and after stopping briefly at the site on to the south of town (Frogs Hollow) we decided to try the one to the north of the town to see if the wind was blowing a little less strongly off the lake. Well, despite the name, Dead Mans Point, turned out to be a nicer spot all round, so we have parked up quite close to the lake for the night. The weather has changed somewhat with grey skies and a bit of rain around. We had a few passing showers, but were still able to take the dogs for a bit of a walk as well as let them have a bit of a run along the waters edge.
