2017 Cruise - Eastern & Western Carribean travel blog

Amber Cove 8 am to 3:30 PM. We did the Discover Puerto Plata Traditions and Local Flavors. We took a nice air conditioned tour bus and visited the Vivonte Cigar Factory and they shared information and we watched them roll cigars. We tasted organic coffee and were offered a cigarillo to smoke. Only 1-2 people did partake of that offer. We stopped in the city and toured Cathedral San Felipe and Plaza Independencia, and then walked around downtown. We also went to n organic chocolate factory and learned how they make chocolate. We had a few free small samples, and then bought some to bring home at the gift shop. We drove by the San Felipe Fortress, but did not get off the bus. We stopped at Don Fernando's ranch where we could taste and/or buy different Dominican rums. The coconut one was delicious. There were many caged animals here. There also was a big bull like animal and peacocks walking around. We saw various trees and exotic flowers and plants from the bus. These included cacao, mango, banana, coffee, and sugar cane. We were provided with a Domincan typical lunch (stew) and a drink of soda or water. Tonight on the ship, the show was Motor City and was very good.
