|On March 9th we left the desert of Casa Grande, travelling north of Phoenix to the Verde Valley. Camping at Camp Verde. The first day, even though Patti and I were both fight allergies, we traveled about 30 miles to the old (now abandon) copper mine at Jerome. Interesting museum with lots of information about the mine during its hayday (early 20th century). Miners were paid $3-4 a day and usually died in their 40s of lung disease. The owners made a profit of around a million dollars per month. Wasn't that great?
