Falkland flag

The French established a settlement on East Falkland in 1764. The country has changed hands a number of times over the centuries and in 1982 a war between Argentina and Britian was fought to see if Britian retains it as part of the Commonwealth. There have been a number of votes by the residents and they always vote to keep in the commonwealth of the United Kingdom. In 2012 there were about 3,000 residents of Stanley, Falkland Islands.

The currency is the Falkland pound, not the British pound. Many penguins 𿐧 species nest here and there were many tours of various nesting grounds.

Terry took the tender from the ship over to Stanley when we were headed down in December. I had the flu then and couldn't go. Had hoped to see it myself when we arrived this time but due to the day delay out of Buenos Aires they cancelled this port. So the pictures you see here are ones taken by Terry in December. There were A LOT of penguin 𯐧 excursions out of Stanley and lots of money generated for the community. I bet the loss of this ship coming in will be a blow to them. We have penguin watching scheduled for Punta Arenas, Chile.
