|I It was very unfortunate and disappointing for us that due to health issues we had to curtail our long awaited holiday in Colombia. The two weeks we had we did enjoy and would recommend this destination to other adventurous travellers, maybe this time we were a little too ambitious.
Colombia has many beautiful places to see and enjoy, and tourism is growing. Somethings could be better and in time this will happen. The area we stayed in in Bogota is called Candelaria and is the old part of the city where most of the tourist attractions are within walking distance. However it is still considered a dangerous area by many of the local people and some taxis will not drive into this area. There is a very large presence of police which is attempting the scale down the criminal incidents.
The people generally are very kind and helpful and it is possible to travel safely by bus, however we would recommend the taxi service or a group tour.
We enjoyed our stay in Leticia at the Decameron Decalodge Ticuna. The weather was hot and sunny and the pool was very refreshing. Highly recommend this hotel, which also organised very good day tours in and around the Amazon.
Although most of the tourism in Colombia is aimed at adrenaline junkies there is still much to be seen and enjoyed and we would like to return one day.
