Khasab is in the Musandam peninsula section of Oman. The tip of the peninsula is one side of the Strait of Hormuz. And strangely enough this peninsular portion of Oman is not connected to the majority landmass of that country to the south. An area of the UAE separates those two portions of Oman ?!
Khasab is a small city of about 20,000, and we did not tour the city per se. The major sightseeing attraction is the nearby fjords. No snow & ice, but lots of steep rocky mountains that plunge into the sea waters.
We decided to join another tour excursion, but did select a small dhow (about 20 passengers) vs. the larger ones with up to 100 packed on. The journey to the fjords was pleasant and the surrounding countryside is stark in its beauty - must have been a tough place to live in days past. Saw quite a few dolphins once into the fjords, and stopped near the shore for a dip into the clear, warm waters. We did not stop for the swim where 6 or 10 other boats did, but went a bit further from them to a more tranquil setting.
Tomorrow we are back in Dubai and will meet our dear friends Rosemary & George who arrive from Austin. The four of us embark on another cruise on the Musica that will terminate in Venice, Italy !
Ciao for now
