Caravan park allowed us to stay at the park until after our tour - lovely people and a lovely park. We caught the bus out to the Black Hand Mine - a set of old tin sheds on the edge of town. Down 84 steps into a spectacular space - 450 odd sculptures and paintings in the stone of the mine. Magnificent and all by an English man who came to Lightning Ridge as a miner and decided to do some carvings in the mine - self taught and has got better and better as he has got older.

We then went to the John Murray art gallery and purchased a couple of prints and the boys had some lunch in a local park before we set off for St George. Lightning Ridge is nothing like Coober Pedy but worth a visit.

First stop was Hebel on the Qld border - a small town of 19 people where we stopped at the general store for a coffee. Then through Dirranbandi (not much there now since the railway stopped) before we arrived at St George late in the afternoon.
