A few days in Fremantle (near Perth) gave us a bit of time to do some things, to the get a wheel alignment on the car, stock up on the shopping and visit some sights here that we always wanted to see. In Perth the major park is Kings Park which overlooks the city and would you believe has lots of flowers which of course we visited. The park is huge and getting a car park was very very hard. We ultimately succeeded and were not disappointed in the result. We visited the Fremantle Goal which closed for business in its intended form in 1991 and slightly daunting, had a lovely lunch overlooking the Swan River a surprise birthday present from Renee and Lyndon and generally cruised around looking at things that we wanted to see.
From there further south to Busselton a jumping off point of the Margaret River and Capes district a rugged coastline and to the south Cape Leeuwin where the Indian Ocean meets the Great Southern Ocean and when we were there they were fighting. To make it all real it was cold wet and windy all the time we were there. We actually had planned to stay in Margaret River but it turned out we would have moved the van 29kms and the park that we were in was very good so we stayed based in Busselton. Margaret River is a huge wine growing area with many wineries, breweries and lots of eateries. We took a tram out to the end of Busselton jetty in the cold wind, its 1.8kms to the end.
We had met a couple in Airlie Beach who live there so we were lucky enough to catch up with them for coffee and lunch and a drive around, it was fun.
So now we have turned and changed direction…….east…..homeward bound but a few things to do on the way so more adventures to come.
