Shirley's Trip to Queensland 2016 travel blog

I don’t know whether it rained overnight or there was just a very heavy dew but there were loud drips onto the roof of the caravan all night from the trees overhead. I kept waking up so was a bit sluggish this morning & didn’t get away until about 9:15am.

It was very overcast & I had to drive through cloud going up the hill to the Atherton Tableland. It’s a steep climb for about 15km to Kuranda & it’s the first time I’ve tested out the car on such a hill but it had no problems pulling the van. It got down to 3rd gear a couple of times but I felt it still had plenty of power left.

It was still overcast most of the way to Cooktown with a few drizzle patches but it was dry when I arrived so I didn’t have any problems backing in & setting up. However, it started to rain a couple of hours after I got here & hasn’t stopped. It’s not cold though, so it’s no big deal getting wet.

There’s trees all around me but none overhead so hopefully I won’t be kept awake by drips tonight & let’s hope the weather improves tomorrow.
