Typical view of much of the high desert drive today.

There were a few small towns along the way ...

... most of them associated with mining activities.

(Ron Writing) This morning we drove a few miles south of Carson City to Minden, NV. Our full-time RVing friends, Judie and Mark, are spending some time there with her dad Jack and we were hoping we could meet-up with them on our return trip south. That plan only partially worked out because Mark was up in the Sierras at their mountain home doing some work. But we were able to arrange a breakfast with Judie and Jack. Judie has told us a lot about her dad so it was delightful to finally get to meet and spend some time with him. Jack is a 94 year old WW-II bomber pilot who served in Europe. He has led a very interesting life and up until a year or so ago he was still flying his own private plane! We had a great time visiting with them both.

After breakfast we continued south on US-395 a short distance and then took NV-208 east to Yerington where we took US-95 alt a little ways east to US-95 south. We drove on US-95 south the rest of the day. We made a stop at Walker Lake to check out the $5 dry camping there but it was about 99° there and still early afternoon so we decided to revert to the original plan and spend the night at a higher elevation. We stopped late this afternoon just south of Tonopah Summit (just south of Tonopah, NV). We found a large turnout on the west side of the highway and it was about 88° there at about 6,000’.

Had a very nice day. Drove some new roads that weren’t very busy and were quite scenic.
