Mel and Nancy Alaska trip 2016 travel blog

Aug 2-5

We have spent four days in Fairbanks visiting various museums, riding on a sternwheeler paddle boat, visiting another gold dredge and panning for gold, which we also did in Dawson City and Chicken. Fairbanks is a modern small city with a large army and air force base. The population is normally around thirty thousand but swells to over one hundred thousand in the summer with the seasonal workers and tourists.

One of the museums is the Ice Museum, The museum has several carving from the international competition held every March. Nancy slid down the ice slide. Really cool. The other museum was at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Last year they were remodeling and we were unable to see it. Many bones from prehistoric dinosaur’s found in the upper regions of Alaska. Many great native artifacts and movies. Good place to visit.
