|My cousin was working a table at the market in a small town called Breukelen on this holiday weekend. Sharon, myself Carola and Ursula went to see Carolien at the market today. The town itself had most businesses closed except a restaurant or two.
Surrounded by canals, this quaint little town hosted this market on the waterfront. The entertainment was very Dutch with accordions playing and people singing in an outdoor area serving beer and other goodies. Sharon was encouraged, by me, to try some local foods such as poffertjes, which are small pancakes, local beer, and bitterballen, a Dutch deep fried appetizer.
Sharon experienced a typical Dutch holiday with families riding bikes, and boating on the canals, without it being touristy. I love the family bikes especially ones with the windshield for the front rider. It seemed as though everyone was out on their bikes today.
Lunch was enjoyed away from the market on a patio in the sun with Carola and her friend from Germany, Ursula.
Great non-touristy day!
