2016 RV Trip travel blog

Camping by the Columbia

Arrived in Umatilla, Oregon this afternoon amid blustery winds. This area is completely different from the Oregon Coast. It is like we have gone into a different world. Here is is arid, very dry, few to no trees and extremely windy. We are parked in the city marina and RV park. It is located right on the banks of the Columbia River, which is still a very large river. On the travel route here we passed several large dams over the Columbia, one at least was a hydroelectric dam. It is much warmer here than on the coast. We left Troutdale with the temperature at 55 and rainy. Here it is clear, sunny and 73, but too windy to really enjoy being outside.

We have spent the afternoon doing laundry and cleaning the RV. Chores like that have to be done occasionally, so today was the day. This evening we plan to explore the area a bit and hopefully find a nice place to have dinner. Lynd has been outside taking a few pictures of our campsite. That is the Columbia River in the background and the State of WA on the other side.
