Pretty Damn Nice! travel blog

This morning, we moved back down into the Central Valley of California to Auntie Squeak and Uncle Steve's home. We have always enjoyed visiting these two in their lovely home in Lincoln. This year, however, is a bit sad because Uncle Steve now resides in a memory care facility.

--

Auntie Squeak took us over to visit with Steve but unfortunately, he was having one of his bad days and did not recognize us, nor did he recognize his son, Dave. I can't help but wonder and marvel at the workings of the mind. How can someone who was so full of life and energy, slowly waste away with no memory of the wonderful life he shared with so many people.

--

Steve and Squeak have been married for almost 69 years. Steve is now 90 and Squeak will turn 89 soon. John and I looked through a box of pictures in Steve's room which chronicled some of the memories that are now lost to Steve. It just doesn't seem fair. It is hard not to get depressed seeing him like this.

But, we are happy to see Squeak, still looking and doing fabulous. It is always fun catching up on family news and information. Squeak has always been supportive of our lifestyle and interested in all of our travel stories.

Their home is like a comfy and cozy oasis to us. We park the rig in the street and there is lots of shade and birdies for the kids to enjoy. We will have to rough it for a couple of days but since we have new batteries this year, we should be ok, as long as I don't leave something on all the time, that is.
