The Olson's Retirement RV Adventures travel blog

Sunshine Skyway Drive.

The road to St. Petesburg.

Just like Texas. The highest points in the state are bridges.

St. Pete. in the distance.

First stop,Fort Desoto on Mullet Key.

From the top of the fort.

The pier where they received supplies before bridges.

The beach.

Big guns in paradise.

The Battery.

Only remaining/restored building of the living quarters.

More big guns.

What is that?

An old very busy working hotel.

Can you see the mast and sail behind the guardrail? Bet we...

Going up.

Going down. What else did we have to do?

We took a drive to St. Petersburg via the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The 2nd exit off the bridge takes you to the islands along the coast. The first one is Mullet Key, which is the location of old Fort Desoto. If you have been following us on our trips you know that Larry likes old forts. Most of the old buildings are gone, but the layout is still there, as well as the Battery's.

After the fort, we continued up the islands/keys. We have never seen that many hotels, motels and condos in a row with 3 restaurants for every one of them(exaggerated, but a lot}. We decided on Ricky T's for lunch. More seafood and craft beer.

We left the islands and drove through St. Pete with a stop at a t-shirt shop. Have to have a T-shirt! Then on through Tampa, where we have been before, traffic was getting bad so we headed down the highway to our campground.
