I paid a visit to a friend I met a few years ago in Cuenca, Pete Gamino. Since I was in the Lead SD area where he lives, we met at the Deadwood Lodge. We did a little gambling and had a couple of drinks.
While in Lead I also visited the Homestake Gold Mine Visitor's Center along the rim of the Open Cut, the 1200-foot deep mine that was the site of the Lead Gold Rush. There I also learned about Lead's Sanford Neutrino Lab located a mile underground where scientists are using a particle detector to study Neutrinos which are fundamental particles like quarks and photons and electrons that cannot be broken down into any smaller bits.
