Balgal Beach

camp area

Early this morning we got on the road so as to be out at Balgal Beach North in what we hoped would be a good time to get a spot at the free camp, hoping that people would have moved on since Saturday. We were pleasantly surprised to find the camp nearly empty when we got there. We had the choice of about 8 spots and chose a large space between 2 trees, backing onto the grassy reserve which borders the beachfront. Unfortunately, there is a bit of a rise between us and the beach so we do not actually see the sea but we just carry our chairs a few metres onto the grass as I am doing now and sit looking over the water - beautiful! Again, it is a very friendly spot. We have met Sandra and Ken from Rubyvale where Ken prospects for sapphires when they are not on the road and Sandra is a quilter and has her machine on board.

Tuesday, 25th

I've seen only 2 vans leave this morning and there have been about 4 sitting out on the road waiting to get in since about 10:00. We obviously chose the correct day to come. Richard's talking of having another swim. He said the water was very warm yesterday so maybe I'll give it a go later. The tide is low at the moment and it is very shallow. Maybe we'll go for a bike ride. Trouble is it is so peaceful sitting here I don't want to move!
