|Well...holy doodle!!!! What a day we had today!! Left Stoney creek at 9 am. Decided we needed to go on a weekend to miss the work commuters. Excellent idea, but the freeways are still so super busy. We had been debating whether we stay on the infamous 401 through the GTA or go a bit farther north and pay the toll to travel on the substantially less used 407 toll highway. We went with the 407!! And are very glad we did. It had been raining all night and had let up slightly as we were leaving, but came back with a vengeance!! It absolutely POURED all day, and we had brutal head winds. All this while travelling on these crazy busy highways....at times the road is 6 lanes wide. We got off the toll where it ends, north of Pickering and headed south to catch the 401. Heavy heavy traffic all the way through until after Kingston turnoff. The amount of semi trucks is staggering, and many Ontario drivers haven't grasped the concept of cruise control either. Made for a few frustrating moments.
We're now camped in the Montreal west KOA and it's still pouring, but the huge old growth trees surrounding us are helping with the rain. The wind has almost completely stopped. So we're certainly hoping we have a big improvement for tomorrow's drive through Quebec.
I'm sure wishing I knew more than my "cereal box/ soup can" French. I'm thinking not everyone is going to be as friendly as the girl checking us in today!!
