After 20 hours worth of flights we arrived in Bali Indonesia. Since we crossed the international time line we skipped forward a day. We were definitly jet lagged from our travels but pleasantly surprised when we arrived. We checked in to a bamboo house perched on a cliff overlooking the beautiful beach of Dreamland. Just taking a look around makes you realize why it is named Dreamland! The waves of course were amazing and the surf was bigger than anything I have seen. Marc paddled out at a couple of world famous spots while I tried to gather enough courage to join him. It took me about 4 days to do it!
Bali is like no other place that we have seen. Everything is different! The people, sounds, smells...everything! It is both chaotic and exciting! The people are some of the friendliest that we have yet to meet. We have only met wonderful, friendly people. The roads and driving are another story! We rented a Suzuki for 10 bucks and crossed our fingers. Not only are the roads 1 lane wide the cars and the steering wheels are on the opposite side. Add to that about a million mopeds coming at every direction and chaos is what it's like! We only lasted about 2 days and then decided that we weren't ready to cut our travels short! So, we've been lounging at the beach, surfing and taking it all in with the other travelers from all over. We haven't met any Americans, but there are several Australians and Europeans. It's a lot busier than we thought but it's fun. Things are pretty cheap too. You can get a 1 hour massage on your lounge chair at the beach for 10,000 rp or 1 US dollar! Meals are about 2 dollars a person with drinks included! Speaking of meals, we are both experiencing our 1st taste of stomach upsets. After 1 night on the Dreamland toilet...or should I say squatting hole that I had to share with 6 other guys, we checked ourselves out of Dreamland and into a more modern hotel with our own private bathroom. Hopefully, we are better soon!!!
Well, we are planning to go white water rafting and treking as soon as we are better. The internets are slow so it make take a while to send pictures. Take care!!
