Whitehorse is the capital of the province of Yukon and situated along the Yukon River. The river was the main means of commerce and travel before modern roads. We toured an old Yukon River boat "the Klondike", well preserved and on land at the entrance of the city. Whitehorse has all services but is so far out from other cities that people tend to fly out instead of drive to destinations. We passed many lakes on way to Skagway with Emerald Lake being the high point. Mountain roads with snow guides for plows looked scary to think this road is maintained in the winter months. It is the only road in and out of Skagway. We ate our way out of Carcross, Yukon with the best cinnamon buns for lunch! Entered Alaska at 2:30 and changed to Alaska time. Cleared customs without any problems. Arrived in Skagway 2:35pm. Noted two cruise ships at the docks but streets not too busy. Yeah, back in the USA, dollars and miles per hour!
