Here we are in a posh internet cafe down the street from our "hotel" Mary's Nice Place for Food and Shelter in Bagamoyo, which is about 80K North of Dar Es Salaam. We arrived yesterday morning in Dar, and thanks to Stephen and Capt. Lee were well rested having been upgraded on the flight to the "club" class.

Upon arrival, after a short hesitation we ended up taking a cab to the city center and the tourist information office. The nice lady made several recommendations and advised us to the Scandinavian Express bus terminal to buy our tickets to Moshi (Kili). From there we went to Ubungo Bus Station - an exercise in the controlled chaos of public transportation in Africa. Initially we were led to a booth where they were willing to sell us a ticket for $10 each. But shrewdly we walked to the correct booth and paid the correct price of $1 each and $1 for each bag in a crowded mini-bus to Bagamoyo. We were provided escort to our hotel for just another $1. Our place is nice and clean, the bugs are mostly kept outside, we have a ceiling fan and a mosquito net - so we slept well. The town is very small and minimal, but has the cool breezes from the Ocean keeping it relatively bug and heat free. We walked along the beach and down to the town beach which was full of school aged children - at one point we were surrounded by kids and had our photo taken by their teacher. We watched a great soccer game and had a good candlelight dinner of rice and beef (?). Tomorrow we head back to Dar and the early bus onto Moshi.

We are doing well and have met some other travelers who have given us good reports of Africa.
