Days 76 - 77 UPDATE NOTES
Apr 11, 2015
So greetings now from Victoria where it’s getting cooler in the mornings but quite sufferable especially as we cheat and set the air conditioner to go on early so it’s a bit warmer when we get up.
First port of call was Wodonga on the border to say G’day to a couple friends that we met on the cruise to the cape in 2010 and who are friends of Barry and Gai . We had a nice afternoon tea with them and a lot of laughs.
From there we went to Bright at the base of the Victorian Alps. Being autumn the leaves were starting to turn and what an incredible sight it was, any trip we took out took us twice as long as we kept stopping for photos, it was just amazing especially for Queenslanders who do not get those sort of trees that far up north. Basing ourselves in Bright we took 3 day trips into the mountains, Mt Buffalo, Falls Creek a ski resort and anther ski resort Mt Hotham. All are about 5,700 feet high so it was quite a climb and descent. The Mt Hotham trip up and down was the worst, if you missed a 30kph recommended corner you would end up in the bottom of the valley, nothing would stop you it was so steep. We were both a bit unnerved a first for us.
Shepparton was next on the stopping points famous for 2 towns Shepparton and Ardmona, its main industry is fruit and veggies and one of its big companies SPC, Shepparton Preserving Company now combined with Ardmona to make what we all know as SPC Ardmona. It was great seeing all the orchards and market gardens. SPC even has a factory outlet where we stocked up at huge discount prices.
And so the trip continues.
