Two weeks ago today we traveled approximately 350 miles from Phoenix, AZ to Deming, NM. It was an easy drive, although considerably longer than we usually like to travel in any one day. We'd promised our friends that we would try to arrive in time to get set up & attend the weekly Friday night potluck held at Hidden Valley Ranch. The potluck begins at 6:00 PM but it seems like most folks start arriving about 5:30 PM. I wonder if that's because we 'older' folks like to eat an early dinner if at all possible??? LOL At least that's what my grandparents & parents always told me :)
Anyway, we arrived in time & joined a friendly crowd for a delicious meal. We've attended 3 potlucks now & there's been a nice variety of good food each & every time. In fact, we just got back from filling our tummies about 30 minutes ago. I can't believe two weeks have gone by so quickly. And I really can't believe how far behind I've been in keeping this post up to date. You might have noticed that my annual Premium membership expired a month or so ago & ads are appearing on the home page. I've been debating on paying another annual 'subscription' as keeping up with the journal takes time & energy & when we aren't traveling it can be quite boring, both for me & especially for all of you. But, we're doing a bit of traveling now & will be for several more weeks so I am going to post more frequently & hopefully you'll enjoy the chatter & most importantly the pics.
Since leaving Vegas we visited our buddy Archie at his home just outside of Needles, California for a few days. Several of our friends were camped there as well & we had a terrific time! Then we attended the 2015 Southwest Gospel Festival which was awesome as always. We stayed in our rig at Stan & Phyllis's & had a ball with them.
Next destination was Hidden Valley Ranch about 10 miles outside of Deming. Three miles north of town, then 7 miles further down a dirt road. Interesting! The owners are wonderful as are the residents. There is a nice mixture of full-timers, monthly's & overnighter's. Our buddies John & Joyce have been here for a couple of months & are staying one more month. And, Brad & Bonnie (aka the Ramblin' Rangers) have been here for a month & will also be here one more month. We are staying one month total before heading out for Cottonwood, Arizona just outside of Sedona. As you know, Larry & I honeymooned there in 1985 so it is a special place for us. We love going back regularly.
It's been a jam packed two weeks with hiking, riding ATV's, music, museums, wineries, shopping, dining at local eateries & also included two trips into Mexico. I have new eyeglasses & I love them! I wear them a good part of the day although my biggest issue is reading. I believe that's purely an 'age issue'...Ha! I still feel quite young at heart!
We've still got plenty to see before our time is up so keep checking back. I'll try to share some of the better pics with you. And, thanks for hanging in there with us. We appreciate it!!!
