|We have enjoyed visiting with friends Dave & Judy for the past several days. The weather has been wonderful, no rain & lovely temps for our visit. Our first evening together we dined out, then returned home to sit out & watch a lovely sky out on the back deck.
The following morning we headed back across the Columbia River to visit our good friend Pat Cooper. Pat has been a good friend for 30 years & she used to reside in Las Vegas. We see Pat every winter/Christmas when she visits her son Jim but we also try to see her when we get into this area every couple of years. In 2012 Pat was in a rehab center with a broken hip when we arrived so it wasn't much of a visit. This trip we met her at my FAVORITE Chinese restaurant in the United States, Lucky Dragon in Kalama, Washington. The Walnut Shrimp in white sauce is to die for!!!! Really :) After lunch we followed her up the hill to her lovely home where we visited another 3 hours or so. It was great catching up a bit & we look forward to visiting a bit more in Vegas in December.
The next morning Dave & Judy picked us up and we headed to the Vancouver National Historic Reserve where we took a nice stroll along the walking path & across the way along the Columbia River. This historic site interprets the stories of the Native Americans, British Hudson's Bay Company, the U.S. Army at Vancouver Barracks, early aviation at Pearson Field, the world's largest spruce mill during World War I and the Kaiser Shipyards during World War II. Fort Vancouver is located five minutes from downtown Vancouver, Washington and is just across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. I'd like to return next visit & spend more time exploring so that's now on our list.
Afterward we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Who-Song & Larry's Restaurant & Cantina. It was absolutely delicious! The small, thin, made & grilled on-the-spot tortillas for shredded pork or chicken tacos were to die for as was the Cilantro Pepita dressing, my new favorite :) Whew, it was good!!!!
We got back to town in time to drop off the guys & head to the Goodwill store to look for a glass coffee decanter for our under counter coffee maker. It's 'vintage' now & we know it should be replaced but I'm holding off on giving up even one square inch of counter space as long as possible. Besides, it still works well. We found a temporary replacement even though it's black instead of white. Guess we'll continue to look for a white one, which shouldn't be too hard as there's plenty of thrift stores around.
All too soon it was time for Judy to 'finish' dinner. We were fortunate to visit with Sara ( Dave & Judy's daughter) for a bit before dinner as she had an appointment that evening. Russell (Sara's hubby) did join us for a delicious spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings, including dessert. I need to diet for a week to overcome today's lunch & dinner :)
So, that's it for now. It's been a great visit but it's time to move on. So, we'll see you over on the coast next time :)
