The journey, Cairns to Sydney went without any further hitches. The plane was an older Boeing 767, laid out for maximum passengers, with no built in entertainment systems though to our surprise we found an iPad in the seat pocket which provided access to the system once we had taken off.
Sydney airport was a real trial. The domestic terminal is dire. Poor signage and no one around to ask how to get to the International terminal, it was very frustrating but finally we collared a delightful Qantas employee who helped? She advised us to use the train which we did, but it did mean wheeling all our bags down escalators and lifts and onto the train. The international terminal was much better, though we had to use a series of lifts to reach departures (each lift served only one floor above so we had to change lifts; we must have walked miles!)
So, finally we board the A380 for the 14 hour flight to Dubai, not looking forward to this, but we decided when we booked the ticket that at the end of our adventure we would just go straight home, so let's do it! The flight was long, watched a few movies, slept in little snatches, ate, and then we were in Dubai. Quick look at the duty free, not overwhelming value, but we did buy a few bottles, and then on to another A380 bound for London.
Similar story to the earlier leg but only for just over 6 hours this time. Met at the airport by a pre arranged taxi from Faversham and actually quite quickly we were home.
It all seemed unreal, back in the UK, cold, it was only 7degrees and somehow we struggled through to 8 pm then crashed!
