Yaroslavl war memorial

Governor's mansion

Governor's mansion

Russian joke from the Stalinist era.

To a small child – Who is your mother? Mother Russia. Who is your father? Stalin. What do you want to be when you grow up? An orphan.

In the morning we had another history lesson the boat while cruising. “Gorbachev and Perestroika”

We arrived at Uglich where we took a bus to Yaroslavl. A 100 kilometer trip each way over bumpy roads. We had to take the bus as the water in the river was too low to take the boat. Visited the usual church, a local market and then the Governor’s mansion. This last trip was excellent with a tour of the house, a musical recital and dancing from the 1800’s. Eventually quite few of us joined in the dancing! Then back to the boat for a late dinner.
