2015-09-15 – Merry Knoll Campground, Rt. 12E, Clayton, NY

We left Massena and traveled the 100 miles or so to Merry Knoll Campground in Clayton NY which is in the Thousand Islands section of the St. Lawrence River. Our site has an unobstructed view of the river from a hill and the folks who run the campground are very nice; friends of folks from church who recommended that we stay here. We really do have a nice site though we can’t launch the boats from here. There are so many other launch sites around this area that if the sun ever shine again, we won’t have a problem.

Though we awoke to sunshine and our trip west was sunny, by the time we got to Clayton and the RV park, the clouds were coming in and of course, before we got to do anything but set up, it started to rain. So, we drove into the town of Clayton and checked out the location of the bars, restaurants, museums and boat launches. It is a lovely town with Victorian seaport homes both big and small; some a little tired looking and some, freshly painted and sparkling. I could live here.

Supposed to rain tomorrow too so….will be heading to the Antique Boat Museum which is reputed to house the most antique boats in the country.
