Our driving experience commences.

Ballater is very close to Balmoral, the Queen's Summer residence, and as she was in residence, the Palace was not open to the public. We did buy some lovely blue cheese from a Providore that provides goods to the Royal Family, we visited the majestic (pun) Glen Muik which is loved and frequented by the Royals, and also Muir of Dinnet where we had a lovely walk around Loch Kinord.

We visited the seaside town of Stonehaven where we walked along the cliffs to Dunnottar Castle, surrounded on three sides by the North Sea. On the way back we had a close encounter with a red deer, fortunately just missing it by a very short space.

At night we dined at the Station Restaurant, which was once the Railway Station Waiting Room (and once often frequented by the Royals). Our B&B was just over the road and provided a breakfast experience of porridge with a Whisky cream sauce....decadent!
